Tigger's final retreat

The finale of the Batman game finally took place on Friday. Batman was captured, rescued by the campers, and soaked in the process (only this time we were in control of the water).

Saturday was Batman, aka Tigger, aka Geoff's final retreat as officer in charge of camp. He'll be moving on next summer when his wife, Leslie is ordained as a minister. We will miss you both.

The 2nd Annual Sandown Tat Hunt

Yes that's right, back by popular demand, this year's tat hunt saw some stiff competition, but in the end, the judges awarded first prize to the horse's head (for "ornimental use only") as tastefully displayed below.

As a treat for putting up with the bad weather, we added a trip out to the Needles firework display to the evening's programme.

Batman's arch-enemy - the rain

Well, Tuesday night we had a barbecue on the beach (erm, in the rain).

Wednesday morning was just about dry enough to play half of the big theme game that had kept me up into the early hours of Saturday morning. The game based (oh so very) loosely on the blockbuster Batman Begins, saw Batman and Robin come up against the evil Piper and his clan of miscreants. The campers undertook a range of challenges to train and prepare them to help fight the Piper. Rain and fear of shrinking costumes postponed the afternoon's finale, but fortunately villans in kilts are happy to wait for fairer weather.

Karting

Monday morning - go karting

The leaders race last and with my reckless driving, I manage to beat a few car drivers. Despite the track being a little wetter, most of us manage to knock a couple of seconds off the young people's best lap times. There are complaints of us having better cars, but these turn out to be unfounded and Colin and Stephen reluctantly hand over the Twixes that they bet with Terry.

Saturday night - rain...

...followed by some rain on Sunday, lots more rain Sunday night and a little drizzle this morning. We've been digging drainage trenches, moving people out of flooded tents, putting straw down to stop the campsite becoming a mudbath and the normal parade to church was replaced by a minibus shuttle. It's generally been a bit miserable (especially for those who visited us for the day yesterday) and there was some talk of abandoning the site for a church hall if it gets any worse. The food is good though.

Bleary-eyed and brittle-tailed

So much for having everything under control yesterday!

Okay, so I worked at home yesterday to give me plenty of time to get organised for our youth camp. It never works out like that though - it took me ages to get through my work, my computer threw a wobbly when I tried to email stuff back to the office, then it crashed a couple of times while I attempted to finish planning some of the activities for the week, and it refused to burn a CD that I needed for a game during the week. Eventually I got everything done, and got myself 3½ hours sleep. I managed to appear alert enough, but was particularly glad that there were a few more reinforcement youth leaders waiting for us at Yarmouth.
